Using grow lights is the perfect way to grow crops in your own home when you do not have a garden or yard to cultivate your plants.

Using this guide, you can easily begin growing your own plants within hours.

First, you need to understand how these lights work.

These lights are produced almost exclusively for people to grow plants indoors. Because the plants will not be receiving the sunlight that they would in a garden or yard, artificial lighting will recreate a plant’s natural environment and provide all of the light that it needs for photosynthesis (the process through which plants get their energy).

Follow up:

It is important to remember that different plants are grown in different environments and therefore need varying amounts of light. Before you run out to buy a light, read up on where your desired plant is typically grown and how much light it needs to live.
Next, you need to understand the different types of lights on the market.

Incandescent light bulbs are the least effective and least energy efficient. While they may provide some light, they are primarily used as a “heating light” and eat up more electricity than the other lights available.

Fluorescent lights are the most efficient and most commonly used grow lights on the market. These lights last up to 20,000 hours and provide a perfect atmosphere to grow all sorts of plants. Lights with a lower amount of light are great to grow vegetables while the high end lights are perfect for larger crops.

LED lights are relatively new but have proven to be very effective in growing vegetation as the fluorescent lights. These set ups are fairly low cost, emit only the colors that plants need to grow, use very little electricity.

Once you have gotten the light, it is time to start setting up your own indoor garden.
Remember, the bigger the plant, the more light it needs. Some plants need both light and dark times and many set-ups now include automatic timed mechanisms that turn the light on and off on their own.
You will also want to get as much out of your lights as possible so it is best to buy reflectors for your lights, not just bulbs. These reflectors will exponentially increase the amount of light that your plants get from just one bulb.

Grow lights are an excellent way to grow your own organic vegetables or simply work that green thumb and produce some beautiful plants.

Happy gardening!
